Welcome - Please note that as of February 2012 fi 1st Impressions has finally closed up shop. No exceptions, sorry. Hopefully this will come as no surprise to any of you as I have been trying to retire for the last 18 months or so.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support & friendship over the years & I hope we can carry on being friends in the years to come. Please keep in touch via email once in a while - just to say hi, a joke or piece of juicy scandal is always welcome. If you find a good computer guy or gal, please let me know so I can pass it on.

At present I am busy planning and preparing to take off for 7 or 8 months with my wife and caravan around Australia. I will be doing a blog again (with regular updates starting on or about the 9th of April) while we are on our travels so that friends and family can check on our adventures, please join and follow us here. An email just to say you are following would be much appreciated. Check out our 2007 travel blog here for an idea of what to expect.

What happens after our 7/8 months bush bashing, well by then I will have forgotten what the inside of a computer looks like, besides which, technology moves so fast that I will be totally out of touch & I will be too busy planning our next big trip to even contemplate trying to catch up.

So what do you do when the time comes for your current PC to retire? I've put some tips and advice together here which I hope you will find useful and informative. Please be aware that technology as always is moving at a fast and furious rate and who knows what lies just around the corner. I read today (Feb 20 2012) that an Australian scientist has managed to move a single atom just half an atoms width - this will lead to computers being a billion times faster than they are today within 20 years. The Germans and others are close to perfecting wireless internet that will match Gillards NBN (a huge white elephant - mark my words) for speed & bandwidth without the need for cables.

Cheers,

David Cliffe
